Targeting Kilimanjaro!

kili-blog

So, as you can probably tell by the title of this, yes, I am embarking on the climb of a lifetime!

I will be climbing up Mount Kilimanjaro in August 2017, all to raise money for the amazing charity, Childreach International.

It all came around about four months ago when one day I decided that I wanted to do something that would allow me to give back to the world. In spite of my racing imagination that wanted to do all sorts of things that were just not financially possible, I decided upon a sky dive for Childreach International.

I came to the decision to do this for Childeach for a few good reasons

  1. My BEST FRIEND (hi, Caitlin!) introduced me to the work that Childreach do when she embarked on the trip of a lifetime to Nepal (so really if you think about it, this wouldn’t be possible unless she introduced me to all things magical about Childreach!). Having a best friend like Caitlin is in itself, a whole other essay of a post. Anyways, back to topic. Caitlin went to Nepal to help build the Meera Centre, a specialist early childhood development centre that provides services to the community and a safe nurturing environment for children. Childreach work and effort to help children is truly an inspiration. This is why I decided to do it for Childreach, after researching a bit more and knowing the work Caitlin had done from updates etc, I knew that this was the charity I felt strongest about.
  2. I wanted to make a difference in someones life, even if it was just one life I could touch, that is all that mattered to me.

Some people can be so hateful and shameful over people who do these things for charities, when the reality is.. would I be able to raise such a vast amount of money if there wasn’t a challenge in place? No! So to the people who perceive risking my life and climbing up the highest free-standing mountain in the world a holiday paid for you could never be so wrong!

So with the sky dive in mind and University just starting, September slipped away super fast. University life was treating me well and I began to feel like I wanted a bit more out of University life. Societies at Uni are a great way to meet new people and gain new skills! In came Childreach Society. It was like fate, there was a Childreach Society at my University! Straight away I contacted the society and found out they were actually recruiting for a Kilimanjaro climb to raise money for Childreach.

And so all fell into place, before I knew it I had signed up to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Childreach International. Did I mention I’m climbing up a BIG mountain?!

Yes, this will put me through my paces and test my ultimate strengths and weaknesses, but, I have the most amazing team going with me – fellow University students – who will all be so supportive and won’t let anyone forget the exact reason we are doing this.

AND IF ALL MY BODY ACHES AT THE END OF THIS, I HAVE A BEACH TO LIE ON FOR A WEEK AFTER KILIMANJARO!

Guys, wish me all the luck in the world for my climb and if you want to help me in any ways, donations to my cause and more info on my climb can be found here. I will be making Kilimanjaro into a travel series, to keep updates on what has been happening etc, so keep a big eye out for those (there will be a few!).
